I loved the movie draft day. Many critics are blasting it, calling it boring, “un-entertaining,” and a miss for Kevin Costner. And to tell you the truth, I could see why; given that most nerds who review movies for a living are comic book loving weirdos who have no sense about the business of football. This movie is purely for the NFL fan. It makes no attempt to educate you how the NFL Draft works, you’re supposed to know that coming in. If you’re not a fan of football, not a fan of the NFL, and have no idea about the intricacies of the NFL Draft, you’re probably going to be lost from the very beginning. Oh by the way, I should mention that this movie is not a chic-flic.
Now if you’re like me, a rabid NFL fan, or a fantasy football junkie, you’re going to love the movie. Draft Day is a movie that follows a fictional general manager, Sunny, of the Browns during the day of the 2014 draft. Anything that could go wrong, or complicate his life, happens. Yeah, the crap really hits the fan. The movie is filled with cameo shots of real NFL players, not to mention, the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell himself. I’m not sure if what really happens on the day of the NFL Draft other than what I see on TV. If it’s anything like or similar to the movie, all I can say is, “Wow, that’s one stressful day.” How any writer could make the NFL Draft more dramatic than it is deserves an award.
