Aloha and welcome to our Recent Wedding Page, or what I like to call it, my company blog. This is where I get to write about my most recent weddings. I'll post as often as I can about each wedding, and a little off-topic wedding blogs as well (Just to keep it interesting). Couples have told me that they love this part of my site the best as they tend to get to know about me and my company more from my postings. Don't forget to call us if you're interested in our services at 1-800-557-1310 or email us at info@dreamweddingshawaii.com
I'm 29 today!!!
Well, it's my birthday today! Yes, I made it to the big two-nine, and I have to say that I actually am starting to feel pretty old!! It feels like it was just yesterday when I wrote my first script and was living in L.A. How I ever exactly transitioned into the wedding industry, well, that's always for another interesting story. Like every other old fart, my life has been filled with the usual up's and down's of a roller coaster, but I'm very proud to admit that I have always remained an optimist even in the toughest of times. To put it simply, it's really hard for me to take life serious sometimes. Laughter is what I center my life around. In fact, I recommend all of my wedding couples to laugh whenever possible. So what I have I learned so far in the last twenty-nine years of my life? I can list 10 things...haha. - Up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right b,a b,a select - start will give you 30 lives in Contra
- Without faith, hope, and love, you cannot accomplish anything...from marriage to business
- Love is not an emotion, but a commitment
- College can teach you everything except how to dream and how to make money.
- Wealth is subjective.
- You can't save your way to a million dollars, but you sure can invest your way to it.
- Never mistaken optimism for blindness, or negativity for the truth.
- Hollywood measures marriages in dog years.
- You never know which stranger you bump into next will become your best friend, wife, enemy, or foe.
- Making brownies is a lot harder than it looks.
- BONUS ONE - 24 is the greatest tv show in the world.
All right people, I am outta here :) I have a birthday to ring in with close family, steaks to cook, and 24 to watch.
Shannon and Melissa
Shannon and MelissaSecret Cove at Turtle Bay - May 21, 2005 Are you ready to be wowed by some crazy scientific facts! According to recent SCIENTIFIC STUDIES: - Sustained laughter stimulates an increased release of endorphins - the body's own natural morphine. We feel better when we laugh, because endorphins actually diminish physical and psychological pain.
- Laughter is a natural and invaluable means for strengthening the heart muscle. Additional research has shown that sustained, frequent laughter also helps some people to lower blood pressure.
- "Natural killer cells," which combat both viruses and cancer, increase in number and activity with laughter. In addition, laughter helps to activate the immune system's T-cells, thereby optimizing and balancing the body's immune functions and potentially helpin to fight many types of disease.
In other words, laughing is good for you. I got this from www.laffing-matters.com if anyone is interested. There's something else that these scientist forgot to mention. Laughter is the way to the heart of a woman. In other words, if you can make them laugh, you can basically court, date, and marry them. And I think if you ask any woman, while their man may sometimes not be a comedian, or center of attention at parties, their man...can make them laugh. I realize that this isn't a proven scientific fact, but I can tell you that at all my weddings, the groom never fails to put a big smile on his bride's face. Now, finding a laid back, funny groom, is one thing. Finding a bride who can match his wit is very rare. Well, enter Melissa and Shannon, a very witty and funny couple fit for a sitcom! While they could be employed in Hollywood...both Shannon and Melissa actually work Washington D.C as professional artist. D.C., by the way, is the only place in the country where you get taxed without representation. (You are sure learning a lot today!!) Melissa is more of the computer type of graphic artist, and Shannon, well, he's more of a hands on guy. Paints are his thing. Melissa by the way, told me that she prefers film over digital because the quality and consistency of the prints are a lot better than digital photographs. Film should always be the standard. So, Shannon and Melissa actually hopped on an airplane and D.C. and flew all the way to Hawaii, to elope. While they were all fun and games before and after their wedding. During their vows, they stared into each others eyes, and they were very very serious. Their ceremony was actually on the beach at Kawela Bay. Kawela Bay is what we call, The Secret Cove at Turtle Bay. It's about a 30 second drive away from the resort. They actually film certain parts of LOST there. After the ceremony, we shot on the beach, and...of course, we hit the banyon trees and the abandoned building. Serious for the moment...It was very easy to get great pictures of Shannon and Melissa. They really couldn't stop laughing. So capturing the moment, was rather simple. They also had their own ideas. I have to say, I have never gotten a request to shoot next to bus stop before... They pitched me their idea that they wanted to wait at the bus stop. I thought it was a fun idea, so on the way back from the abandoned building, we all jumped out of our cars during traffic and snapped this picture.
 Love this shot...
So I talked about how creative Shannon and Melissa are. We'll...take a look at this piece of artwork that they did for their wedding announcement. It was inspired by the Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii movie poster. I'm not joking here, they are really talented. I bet their kid will be born with a mouse in one hand, and a brush in the other. Check out those daisy dukes on Shannon...
Lastly, I realize that a lot of Shannon and Melissa's friends may not believe that they are married. We'll, I can vouch for them. They tied the knot folks. If my word doesn't do it for you, check their tax return. There's a nice tax penalty for all married couples... Right after the wedding
Shannon, Melissa, it was a great honor to do your wedding. I wish you my best in your present and future endeavors. And I will also keep you in mind when I need some awesome artwork for my video series.....
Restaurant Review up
Hey everyone, I'm working on my new wedding blog for the day. Should be up hopefully in the next few days. I'm just waiting for my laptop to come back from the repair shop. I carry my laptop everywhere, I left it on an ant nest, and lets just say when I turned it on, the ants fried to the mother board. Luckily everything is under warranty...and luckily, my dad owns a computer company. Anyway, who would know that ants and computer motherboards don't mix! It's not like that's common knowledge you learn in life. So I'm starting to review a lot of restaurants for my website. Take a look at the review. The link can be found on my main site, but here is a direct link: http://www.dreamweddingshawaii.com/michels.htm All my reviews, and future reviews, are unbiased. I had been offered my numerous restaurants to review them in return for a complimentary dinner. While tempting, I declined, and decided to sneak in below the radar as a paying customer. The result, an unbiased review by your truly!!!
Teri and Joaquin
I've had the wonderful opportunity to be in the wedding industry for a good decade now and have witnessed first hand how technology can not only change the wedding industry, but the destiny of two souls.
I remember when I was back in High School, this was back in the 90's, and the internet at that time was reserved for a lot of nerds or computer geeks. Only geeks had an email address, and only geeks chatted online. Yes, I was one of those geeks...and I did...well, all of the above. Fast forward to the present day, I'm happy to say that we geeks were ahead of the curve. But nothing could have prepared me for what would come....Online relationships.
See, no matter how geeky I was back then, I didn't chat with people with the intentions of transforming that relationship into something meaningful. I, like many other people, thought, "Hey...Online dating, well...That's only for dorks." Was I ever wrong.
If I could recall correctly, I was back in Long Beach, sitting with one of the kids I babysat for when I was living nearby. He was in high school, and he was one of the cooler kids. I did the usual talk "Are you dating anyone now..." and he answered with a casanova, "Oh yeah..." Then, he casually pulled up his myspace website where he had literally hundreds of girls as friends. How many of them did he date or meet in person. Almost every single one. Was online dating for geeks anymore? No way. In fact, online dating was just a portal to meet in person...to date them in real life.
Times changed. It was cool to meet people online, and to date them.
With each sunset, I started to realize that my clientele started to evolve with the tide. Slowly more couples who met online poured in. The current statistic, close to half of my couples have met online. Are they dorks. Far from it. In fact, they are all quite good looking. Even one of my preachers met his current wife online, and boy are they happy together. A lot of couples who met online are kinda embarrassed about it. I say, don't be embarrased. Love is love...just be happy you found it. Even if Bill Gates and Al Gore had somethng to do with it. (Didn't he take the initiative to invent the Internet??? haha) Teri and Joaquin, met online. Teri is a smart and looker and Joaquin, well, he's a full fledge American Hero who helps defend our freedom overseas. I married them a year ago at Kawela Bay and remember that day as though it happened yesterday! They were planning a HUGE wedding back at home, but instead opted to elope in Hawaii. They truly ran away to get married. They have the right idea. Getting married is not about guest, not about stress...it's only about the two people who are making the comittment.
Teri, she was very nervous. And Joaquin, he was nervous as well, but he just didn't show it. Teri wore a very very elegant wedding gown with a very long train. Predictably, the wind at Kawela Bay was not very strong at all, which made her dress very manageable. Once I set the dress, it just stayed. The downside, boy was it hot. It was so hot, that I treated them to shave ice after their wedding. That shave ice, boy did it hit the spot.

As you can see, the pictures turned out just picture perfect. Great looking couple, great weather, great setting. You really can't ask much more from a photography standpoint.
I just got an update from Teri and she told me that Joaquin is headed back to Iraq. Lets all keep him in our prayers to make sure he returns home safely to keep this one of a kind love story...rolling.
Hey everyone!!!
Hey there everyone!!! Just when I think it slows down in time for me to start blogging again, guess what...things just start to speed up. Bookings for the month of January and February have been double, even triple than what it's actually been for the past two years! This may actually mean that 2006 may actually be completely booked a lot sooner than uusal. So if you are interested in booking, make sure to give me a call as soon as you can. Another reason why we may be booked up for 2006 earlier than usual is because we will start principle photography for our Instructional Wedding Video series during the latter portion of this year. The 16 epidsode video series, has actaully been in the making for the last 10 years of my life. The script, which I'm writing right now, is turning out great. It's funny and informative. I'm always a fan of teaching through humor. If you're wondering when we plan to realease it, it'll be in the summer of 2007. Most of you will be married by then. But not to fear, you can get all that information in that video, just by calling. So for the blog...I'll be updating it soon. I promise. I'm going to start cherry picking my favorite weddings from last year, since I'm backed up since April of 2004. If you do want to have your wedding featured, just drop me a line, and I'll make sure I'll cherry pick yours. And yes, I still remember each and every one of you. See you all soon! Steve
